Merry Christmas! From Milk Quest

Merry Christmas from all of us at Milk Quest! We hope you've had a fantastic holiday season. 2024 has been a great year for Milk Quest, and it seems that 2025 will be even bigger! I just want to say thanks for everything throughout the years. Here's to many more!
From what I hear, a certain man in a red hat enjoyed all of the milk that was left for him this christmas season. And from what I hear, Santa was real angry that he drank it all instead of himself!
In other news, we have a very short list of updates to share regarding some of the games!
Newgrounds

Milk & Cookies is now on Newgrounds! Took us long enough. You can find it here. If you're looking for an excuse to replay it this holiday season, here's your chance.
Somehow, we hit the front page of Newgrounds! Just barely, but it's still prety cool. Never thought that would happen for a rerelease!
Milk Quest: Repasteurized likely won't be compatible with HTML5 (at least not at launch), so there probably won't be another web Milk Quest game for a while.
A Very Quick Milk Quest: Repasteurized Development Update

We've gotten a lot of work done in the past month! A lot of the changes have been smaller tweaks, such as adding custom font support or creating achievement icons. Besides that, most of the cutscenes are now finished up, minus Kid's intro.

A few people requested that we wait until after the holiday season before sending them playtesting builds, so we haven't gotten quite there yet, but the game is now fully playable from beginning to the demo's end screen! Admittedly, we've all been a little busy with other smaller timeframe projects, so this is a blessing in disguise!
These are the last things that need to be completed before the demo can be released:
We'll see you in the new year! Hopefully by the next time you hear from us, we'll have something that you can actually play.
Milk Quest Fifth Anniversary Update

Five Years. Milk Quest is Five Years old. Please don't send me to the retirement home yet!
It's been incredibly fun working on the games through the years. It's amazing to see how far the series has come! If you've been around since the Milk Quest 3 prototype days, you know how rough all of the old games used to be. Even though progress has been slow on the series overall, I am still very proud of what it is and what is to come for it.

A HUGE THANKS to Quackers, the unsung hero of Milk Quest! Not only does he create all the awesome tunes you hear, but he also helps a ton with the scenario and writing of the games. Every single one of the good bits was his idea!
Furthermore, Cowboy Khajiit and Doodlesack12 have been incredibly helpful in creating animations and helping test out the games. They're some of the best animators in the entire world. We wouldn't be here without any of you guys!
Bluesky
If you weren't aware, we made a Bluesky account. If you've jumped ship from Xitter then feel free to follow. We'll be posting the same content between the Bluesky and Twitter account, so you won't miss out if you only have account on one platform.
Updates to Milk Quest Games
As promised earlier this year, Milk Quest 1+2 and Milk Quest: Half & Half are both getting small quality of life updates today.
Starting off, in Milk Quest 1+2, all of the grammatical errors have been fixed. Can you believe the word Chocolate was misspelled throughout the entire game, despite being the entire goal of the story? Mental! You can also now pause Milk Quest 2 and return to the menu if needed. The ending of Milk Quest 2 has also been tweaked, adding in an archived song for the ending, as well as giving Conehead a unique ending render.
A handful of features from the original code.org release have been brought back as well, suck as a better background scrolling and the return of Conehead's unique font.
Milk & Cookies has been given a brand new controls menu to change the game's controls as you please, which includes official controller support! The game kind of had controller support previously, but it hardly worked and wasn't customizable. I haven't been able to test it with every controller, so please report back if it works well or not! The Christmas season is coming up, so why not revisit Milk & Cookies at some point this December?
If you have a chance to play through Milk & Cookies sometime this holiday season, make sure to write down your secret code from the lobby! You'll unlock some fun goodies in the Repasteurized demo!
Milk Quest: Repasteurized Development Update
No more dilly dallying. Let's get to the big guns.

Overview
A lot has been done in the past year! Kid is pretty much complete, minus needing some extra animations. All of the menus and 'side modes' are complete, too. Most of the work left is replacing temporary assets with their final versions, and polishing up some game systems which need finalization.
An example of this is support for language files, meaning players can translate the game into other languages without modding the game. This also makes modifying text in the game super easy!
Level Design Optimization

One of the most time consuming parts of creating the Milk Quest games has always been designing levels. Thus, a good part of this year was spent speeding up this process to make it both quicker and more fun!
Previously, the levels were originally blocked out with resizable blocks, which the game uses for collision, and then afterwards given a proper tileset. This proved to be slow and time consuming, as you basically had to create the level twice for both collision and graphics. This was tolerable in older games which had much simpler geometry, but Repasteurized makes heavy use of slopes and complicated terrain.
Thus, new rooms are now designed with the tile set only, with the collision blocks being generated at runtime. This significantly speeds up level design time, as well as helps eliminate certain issues such as collision mismatching the visible tile set.
Critter Log
A brand new fun feature we've included is the Critter Log. As you defeat enemies and meet new characters, they'll be added to the Critter Log, where you can interact with them and read all about them. Think of the Piklopeida from the Pikmin games.
You'll get to read notes from both Fezhead and Kid as you play through their stories, and you may be able to purchase some others along the way. All information in the Critter Log is 1000% accurate and fact checked by true milk warriors.
Chapter 1
Chapter 1 is pretty much complete. It is playable the entire way through as both Fezhead and Kid. The only thing that needs to be completed are the story cutscenes and some dialogue, mostly for Kid's campaign. I'm very happy with how the art direction turned out for this area, I guarantee it'll be unlike anything you've seen before!
Chapters 2 & 3
The first level of Chapter 2 is already half complete, and most of the level elements have already been coded in. Kid's section of the campaign still needs a lot of graphics done for the chapter, as this is where his story begins to deviate from Fezhead's. A planned feature for Chapter 2 is a dynamic lighting system in dark rooms, which is influenced by the player and the environment. The off the shelf solution I was using for this mostly works, but really struggles with slopes, so it'll either need tweaking or a complete rewrite.
Most of the level elements for Chapter 3 are currently planned out but not programmed in the game. This chapter will need a completely new system to update tilesets recursively at runtime, so it'll be a bit before Chapter 3 is fully functional.
Future Plans

The game will be going out to playtesters incredibly soon to see how it sizes up. Since this is just a demo, I'm not too concerned about everything being perfect, but first impressions are important.
As stated before, the next step after initial playtesting is releasing a demo of Chapter 1, including both Fezhead and Kid's campaigns. Admittedly, I hoped to have the demo out today, but the past two months have been incredibly busy! And I'm lazy!
It doesn't look like the rest of the year will be any more free, either. So I can safely say that you'll have the demo in your hands in early 2025. My promise!
We'll see you in 400 Galactic Time Units when the demo releases! Until then, I'll be replaying Deltarune for the fifth time...
Happy 4th Anniversary, Milk Quest 2!

Four years already? Where did the time go...?
Out of all the games that exist, Milk Quest 2 is certainly one of them, but it's the game that shaped the Milk Quest series and it's identity the most. It helped define major parts of Fezhead's world, as well as introduced the iconic Conehead, the spider with a soul of drywall. Seriously, try imagining a world where Slimeguy was Fezhead's iconic sidekick.

As a little treat, here are a handful of songs from Milk Quest 2's development. True milkheads will know that the Milk Quest 2 soundtrack, as well as the Milk & Cookies dialogue system were reused from a entirely unrelated project that eventually got scrapped. The soundtrack was the last thing finished for Milk Quest 2, so none of these songs line up with final areas in the game. Still, they would have likely been used in the shelved "Half & Half" expansion.
"Ebb"
"Nebulous"
"Spacial Tangram"
That's all I have for today. Gotta keep enough beta content to myself until the big five year anniversary! But thank you for playing and enjoying Milk Quest 2, even if it sucks.
Make sure to watch out for a patch for Milk Quest 1+2 in the coming weeks, fixing a few bugs and adding in some needed quality of life, like full controller support and a proper ending for Conehead's campaign (seen above!). See you soon.
Milk Quest: Repasteurized Development Update
We've been working on Milk Quest: Repasteurized on and off for nearly two years now. We've been purposefully secretive to hopefuly keep some suprise (and to stop people from bothering us for new builds!), but maybe it's time to show off some stuff.
If you're unaware (a reasonable assumption), Milk Quest: Repasteurized is a complete reimagining of the original Milk Quest game, converting it from a three minute long visual novel to a fully featured platformer.
The Story
There lives a simple man named Fezhead. He seems completely normal, besides his inane obession with milk. So, when Fezhead wakes up one day to find no milk in his fridge at all, he rushes to get ready and buy some.

What Fezhead doesn't realize is a portal opened in his dresser overnight, which he slips into, falling into an unknown world.
Enter: The Inbetweens
The world found between worlds, The Inbetweens is a land of magic and illusion. If Fezhead wants to escape this strange world, he'll need to keep his head straight and his fez straighter.
You'll find rabbits coming out of tophats, card throwing suites, and plenty of optical illusions. The land itself twists and turns, twisting in and out of eachother.

Keep a eye out for strange tricks and traps, you can never be sure where you're going... or even where you've came from.
Fezhead's Stash
While you explore The Inbetweens, you're bound to find odds and ends from years past. Once you find a item, you can use it in any stage at any time.
Deep within the caves and tunnels, you might just find yourself a pair of Anagoggles. With a quick press of a button, Fezhead will become invincible for a few seconds! If you're skilled, you can say goodbye to taking damage forever! (Keyword: Skilled)
Everyone's Favorite Kid
Kid returns as a playable character, and this time around, he's better than ever! Kid's Double Jump can now be activated at any time with a press of the X key, along with the ability to change his flight angle! Kid is now much more capable horizontally, so watch out Fezhead!
Kid will have unique sections throughout each level to test his unique skill set. You'll have to play as both characters to get the true experience.
Awesome Tunes
Remember the soundtrack of Milk Quest 1? Remember how it was composed on a online MIDI editor? We've decided to take a different approach for the soundtrack this time: Making it sound good. This game's soundtrack is shaping up to be the best in the Milk Quest series yet, I've genuinely been amazed hearing each song as they're finished.
You can check out a handful of the finished songs over on Soundcloud. Keep an eye out for other previews as well.
Total Progress
We plan on the game having three 'Chapters', each focusing on a different world, similar to the original. As of now, Chapter 1 is completely playable, minus a room or two. The remainder of work is simply creating more artwork, and planning out cutscenes. Our current plan is to finish up Chapter 1, then release a demo for everyone to try out. Then, we'll grind out Chapters 2 and 3, and release it as a full product. For now, here's some very rough estimates on how far along development is.
PLANNING - 85%
CHAPTER 1 - 75%
CHAPTER 2 & 3 - ??%
Other News
Keep an eye out for a update to Milk Quest 1+2 and Milk Quest: Milk & Cookies that adds controller support and rebindable controls.
Regardless, we'll see you in eight years when the full game is finished!
Introducing the NEW milkquest.org
If you're reading this, you're on the brand new Milk Quest website! Previously, the site was just Fezhead doing the floss.

It was a bit... crude. Hopefully this site will work a bit better.
Have fun checking out all the new stuff. Please.
